For the last 33+ years, the great state of Minnesota, has suffered with a flag we doesn't deserve.
If we channel Roman Mars for an evaluation: It's blue, which is fine, but then things go terribly wrong. Stick a little seal on it with with some rope around it, and some poorly colored flowers that we can safely assume are Lady Slippers...probably, then add the state's founding year, our motto, some dudes doing something (we're not really sure what because you'd literary have to climb the flagpole to see those details) and hey, let's throw a bunch of stars on it because...stars. Oh, and just in-case folks forget it's Minnesota's flag, let's stick "MINNESOTA" on it in BIG BLOCK LETTERS... How can we not call it what it is, an S.O.B. (Seal On a Bed-sheet).
This is why it's rated as one of the worst flags in North America.
It's time for a new flag to fly over our state.
It's time to get organized.
Our Facebook group has been a helpful starting point, but we need a real web presence. For that, we've taken the first step, reserving NewMNFlag.org . Now it's time to build it, populate it with our ideas, designs and a coordinated message, giving it a proper launch just in time for Flag Day!
What are the funds going toward? Great question!
-Domain Registration, ~$15 a year
-Hosting and an SSL certificate ~$20 a month
-A decent theme, graphics, plugins, etc.
-Whatever else we can't get from our volunteer team
What happens if we go over our goal? Because there is so much support out there for this, that certainly could happen. Answer: We'll put everything into the project, period. We could extend the website's domain lease, help automate a letter/email writing campaign to our legislature, put together a large-scale public event, whatever it takes to get something we can be proud of flying over the Capitol and every other flagpole in the state.
