I sat next to Audre Lorde at a luncheon back in the late 90s, where I told her of my idea of writing a book to highlight the issues of being a multicultural, internationally-raised, proud black woman. She said, "We need that." All these years later, I've finally found a project for myself that does the job...
As a social worker who has always had a "different" take on the work, I'm writing, "American-Born Foreigner: A Black Social Worker's Story" It is anecdotal and partly professional, in that I'm telling how my roots and the circumstances I've gotten to know influences what I think about today's problems and the evolving antiracist approach toward their resolution .

I have already completed the writing of a child's picture book: "Yasmine's New Friends," an uplifting story about a little girl who is bullied for being Muslim.

I haven't worked much in recent times and would like to attend this conference, sponsored by Ibram Kendi, whose work I greatly respect. I want to stay in a hotel for a couple of days and also go to the African American Museum.
