490th Bomb Group Heritage Trail

In May 2014 a small group of people from Eye, Suffolk came together to discuss the idea of a permanent memorial to the 490th Bombardment Group. Just two years later the first chapter was completed with the addition of a permanent memorial on the airfield.
The next chapter for the Friends of the 490th Bomb Group is to create an airfield heritage trail suitable for all generations and all levels of fitness. The money raised will be for the addition of park benches for rest areas and information boards placed along the 5 km trail. The trail will provide healthy exercise for those normally precluded from such things at the same time informing future visitors of what was here and why it is important to not forget.
The entire project will also commemorate further the young men who died all those years ago so very many miles from there homes, giving their lives for our freedom.
We would like the benches and information boards to be in place by May 2017 which is when we will be officially opening the Heritage Trail.
The Friends of the 490th cannot thank all those who have supported us enough. You have helped us so much but once more we are reaching out to you hoping for your support in making sure these ordinary young men, who stepped forward to face such adversity allying themselves with Europe's cause, shall always be here in our hearts.
