Volunteering In Uganda

My name is Elle Wilson and I am a member of the Scouting Association. I am 16 years old and in the summer of 2019, myself and 29 others will be undertaking a three-week long expedition to the village of Bulera which is located in Uganda, as part of a contingent of Explorer Scouts from across Lancashire. Whilst in the village we will undertake the building of a farm to support the local school and also a new water source in order to meet the current needs of the ever increasing village. The water source we shall be building is called a bore-hole, and will provide water to over 800 people, from surrounding villages as well as the one we will be building in. The local school has an aim to feed the children it educates once a day. We will be building a farm in order to fulfil the school’s target of feeding the children once a day, as many eat on the Friday lunchtime and do not eat again till the Monday of the following week. It has always been a dream of mine to participate in an expedition like this, due to a long-lasting dream of medicine and working for an organisation such as the Red Cross. This trip will show me who I could be helping in the future and develop the skills I need to get my dream career. I am trying to raise £450 to go towards the drilling of the bore-hole and any equipment/resources we need to build both projects.  And a further £550 towards the costs of travelling and the vaccinations required for working in Uganda.
