Doug Roderick Leukemia Fundraiser

Doug Roderick is a fellow law enforcement officer and member of the SD Highway Patrol. Doug has been battling leukemia for some time now. Doug was diagnosed on February 22nd, 2015 with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia, commonly known as CML.  He has been on chemo now since that date, about 10 months. CML never completely subsides, in other words you never reach remission. But, you do reach a point where the disease is controlled and marginally detectible in your blood.  Treatment progress is measured in log reductions (which measures the amount of reduction to the CML cells in your blood.)  Doug is currently at a 2.0 (100x smaller) log reduction with the ultimate goal of treatment to reach a 3.0(1000x smaller) log reduction. Doug’s body doesn’t handle high dosages of chemo very well, so we have had to reduce his chemo dosages to half doses which has slowed the progression of treatment. Ideally you will hit the 3.0 log reduction at 1-year of treatment, but for Doug it looks like it will be a little longer then 1-year. Once you reach that 3.0 log reduction, you continue on chemo for the rest of your life because patients who have gone off the chemo have relapsed. We are in a marathon, not a sprint!

To date they have not had any fundraisers and the medical bills are stacking up. 

We (his law enforcement family) hope that our friends and family can help give them a Christmas with a little less to worry about.
