GOOD BOY WHO'S BEEN  STARVED AND BRUTALLY STABBED NEEDS YOUR HELP TO PAY FOR MEDICAL CARE

Roux's Story

We found this boy in our neighborhood this week. He was malnourished and had a stab wound in his chest. He has one of the sweetest personalities ever.

All dogs are good dogs, but this boy is exceptionally affectionate, and has the best spirit.  He's such a love bug. We knew we had to help him find a home.

After sharing his story on social media, a wonderful family fell in love and want to adopt him.

His adopting family lost their beloved Turbo at age 13 not too long ago. While still heartbroken by that loss, they were shocked to read about what this boy has been through in his young life, and they were inspired by his amazing, fun-loving spirit that holds no grudges against humans.

They decided to name him Roux. Roux will join their dog, Loki, to complete their pack.

Roux gets along well with our dog, Governor, so we know he'll do great with Loki! The photo below is of Roux and Governor taking a post-dinner nap together on the couch:

We thought that our biggest challenge would be finding him a home, but that was the easy part--his medical situation is another story. During his stay at the animal hospital to treat his stab wound and get neutered, he was diagnosed with heartworm. (It's practically epidemic in New Orleans among homeless or neglected dogs that are kept outside and not well cared for.)

Heartworm is treatable, but the treatment is expensive...and left untreated, the heartworm will kill him.

Roux did great with his surgeries!

Between the two surgeries and the heartworm treatment, his medical bills are approaching $2,000.

Those costs would be a dealbreaker for just about any adopter, so we decided to make a GoFundMe campaign to offset it.

Roux's Medical Bills

Roux's invoice to repair his stab wound and to get neutered was $951.84 (photo of the invoice is below).

His heartworm treatment will be between $750-900. Vaccinations will be about $110. I spoke with Roux's future veterinarian (the one his adopting family uses) to get the estimate. That price includes everything--the medication, labs, imaging, overnight stays at the vet. (She also said that his adopting family are wonderful!)

Any funds collected in excess of his medical bills will be donated to Animal Rescue New Orleans (ARNO).

Thank You for Your Help!

This sweet, sweet boy has had a rough start, but still is a loving, affectionate guy. Like so often with his breed, he is forgiving and full of love. Thankfully his luck is turning around, and his future only holds people who will give him the love he deserves.

But Roux's happy future is contingent on his health, so we are asking for your help. Anything you can donate will be so, so appreciated, both by us, and his adopting family.

Please share this with your social media networks and encourage their participation.

Thank you from us, from Roux's future family, and from Roux himself!
