Tuition Costs for MFA Photography

I’ve been really fortunate to have been able to work as an actor in a world renowned theatre company for the past 5 years. During this time, I’ve lived in Italy and travelled to countries I never thought I would have had the chance to see. In each place as we were performing and teaching I’ve met many different people whose perception of the world around them, and their place in it, had the possibility through the work to align with a kind of deep necessity that exists hidden inside each of us. In the night, when the long days of work had finished and my colleagues would be making their way into their beds, or out for a well deserved drink, I would slip out, camera in hand, and look to discover what laid hidden under the gloss of the surface of things. One way or another, either through performance or through a camera, I’ve been hunting these hidden aspects of life since my youth. Who knew that destiny was so clever in preparing someone to catch the nice little curve balls she loves to throw from time to time?

When I was 25 I was diagnosed with an auto-immune disorder. Almost 15 years post diagnosis, the illness has begun to take its toll on my body. Suffice to say I’m not as spry as I once was and the intensity of our work schedule in the theatre company (we’re constantly juggling rehearsals, performances, teaching, and traveling) is something I’m no longer able to sustain. As these physical changes have been occurring they have reenforced in me this desire to explore in detail the complexity of the world around us as seen through the lens of the camera, and the power the look has on our reception and understanding of that which is other than ourselves.

The cherry on top of all this is that I have been accepted to the MFA (Master of Fine Art) in Photography program at the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham, England. The University for the Creative Arts has been ranked as the # 1 Specialist University for the Creative Industries according to The Complete University Guide 2018 and The Guardian University Guide 2018. The MFA in Photography is an excellent program that accepts very few people each year. I’ve have received an unconditional offer to enter the program in September 2018. This 2 year program would offer me the creative, technical, and business skills needed to develop a career in the arts that would not be dictated by my chronic illness … and all that for the mere sum of £9000 per year!

Here's where you come in to the picture! (Pun indented) Right now I’m looking to raise $9500 (Canadian Dollars) to help cover part of the first years tuition. I’ve already tried bank loans, government loans, grants, and scholarships and unfortunately as a Canadian citizen going to a UK school there are very few possibilities for me, added to that, most grants and scholarships are geared towards people under 30.

This is a practical (art based) program that will compliment my previous education and training. I already hold a Combined Honours Bachelor of Arts in Theatre & Film Studies and Cultural Studies & Critical Theory from McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada where I graduated summa cum laude, and a Master of Arts in Theatre and Performance Studies from York University in Toronto, Canada, for which I received funding for in the form of a SSHRC Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarships - Master’s Scholarship.

Raising this money is my best hope for making this needed career move happen. What ever you can donate would be greatly appreciated, and if you can't donate ... I would be equally grateful if you can pass this along to as many people as humanly possible so that maybe be able to make my goal and go back to school again as a very mature student.

For whatever help you can give me, I sincerely thank you in advance.
