Chomp the beloved Alligator that escaped his home last Thursday in Pittsburgh while his owner Mark Mcgowan was cleaning out his enclosure. Alligators are very smart, which he is too smart for his own good!
Mark is the owner of Jungle Edge Exotics which is licensed to own such exotic animals.
He only made it about 100ft from his house before someone found him. He was caught and thrown into the back of a metal truck by Animal Control. He was taken to a rescue in New Jersey and is going to be sent to Florida.
It is legal to own an alligator in Pennsylvania. No law was broken. He escaped on accident and deserves to be brought home. HE WAS NOT RELEASED!
Mark also has the appropriate paper work and licenses to have Chomp. Mark rescued Chomp 3 years ago, got him back to good health, trained him and has established a relationship with him. He is a beloved pet. Chomp goes all over the place every weekend educating children and adults on how amazing these creatures are! Chomp is very loved by many and very well taken care of by his owner. Mark did not do any wrong, accidents do happen. He should not be penalized and not be able to get his pet back. When someones dog/cat or other animals gets loose they do not ship them out of state and makes it nearly impossible to get your animal back. Chomp has caused no harm. Reptiles get a bad reputation but there are many many people who love and enjoy them!
We want to raise funds to bring Chomp home!!!
We will need to pay the fee for Chomp as well as going to get Chomp from wherever they took him.
We at Herps and Serps are going to help build Chomp an enclosure that is escape proof out of Pittsburgh where he can live out his life and still be used for educational purposes for generations to come with his beloved owner. We are good friends as well as fellow vendors at reptile expos with Mark. Which is where we met Mark and Chompers!
**We will update as soon as information regarding Chomp is released to where he is and what it all entails to get him returned home**
We want Chomp to be back with his owner and going back to doing educational events for adults and children.
We would greatly appreciate any help you would be willing to give!
Thank you all so so much for your support and your help to bring Chompers home!
