                              2017 Conservation Project

On Saturday, October 21, 2017 the Brooklyn Council of the Boy Scouts of America – Greater New York Councils will be conducting a conservation project at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn. This will be the 7th conservation project that we have organized. Over the years this event has grown in size and scope. The last one we held was attended by 800 Scouts, leaders and family members.

This project accomplishes several goals. It teaches the boys to be environmentally conscious and to care about the planet earth. It helps them to be communally minded; to be concerned not only for our planet but specifically the community in which they live. After helping clean up Brooklyn’s shoreline, their hard work is rewarded by providing them with a meal that they share in fellowship with the other Scouts that they’ve worked alongside of.
The day concludes with a ceremony where we recognize each scout with a certificate of participation and a specially designed shoulder patch which they may wear on their uniform to commemorate the day’s effort.

As this is a service project, there is no charge to any of the Scouts or families for helping us to achieve our goal.
To give you an idea of the items needed to accomplish this project, the following is a list of supplies that will be needed in order to achieve our goals on October 21st : the rental of 6 Port-A-Potties, 50 rakes, 50 pick-up tongs, 2,000 pairs of rubber gloves, 750 contractor weight garbage bags, 400 servings of coffee, 600 doughnuts, 800 hamburgers and hamburger rolls, 800 hot dogs and hot dog rolls, 800 snack-sized bags of chips/pretzels, 2,500 bottles of water, 1,600 bottles/cans of a beverage (soda, Gatorade, etc..), 1,000 hot cups, 1,000 cold cups, 1,000 paper plates, 2,000 napkins, associated condiments (ketchup, mustard, milk, sugar, etc..).
The aim of the 2017 Conservation Project is to provide 1,500 hours of service to help clean up the shoreline of our corner of Brooklyn. We expect to have 800 attendees helping us achieve our goals. We ask you to join in our effort to make this project a great success. Our goal is to raise $2,500 to conduct the event. Please make a donation to help us achieve our funding goal that will aid us in our efforts.

The Boy Scouts of Brooklyn and the entire Breukelen District Committee would like to thank you for your past support, we can not have events like this without the help of people that care like you do.
