About The Weather Resilience Fund

In May 2024, GoFundMe.org, a nonprofit, charitable partner to GoFundMe, launched the Weather Resilience Fund to help address the impact of extreme weather on vulnerable individuals and communities. The fund’s mission is to support community resilience efforts, ensuring that vulnerable communities can better adapt to increasingly intense weather conditions and weather-fueled natural disasters.

The Weather Resilience Fund’s first project, made possible by a $1.5 million donation by GoFundMe Inc, is a program for low-income households in California’s Central and Imperial Valleys.

A “new normal” of weather-related disasters requires us to find an approach that helps people and communities proactively address the impacts of extreme weather. Too often, the people who can least afford financial losses suffer the most. The Weather Resilience Fund helps families better withstand and recover from the increasingly frequent weather disasters and related disruptions.

Meet the Local Partners Who Will Help Central and Imperial Valley Families Prepare for Extreme Weather Events

Comite Civico del Valle (CCV) and Central California Environmental Justice Network (CCEJN), have joined with GoFundMe.Org to launch a weather resilience pilot program for low-income households in California’s Central and Imperial Valleys.

As local implementation partners, CCV and CCEJN will identify program recipients and oversee the process of equipping approximately 250 low-income households with air purifiers, water filtration devices, and ductless mini-split air conditioners.

“The San Joaquin Valley is one of the most vulnerable regions in the country to extreme heat and climate change, as well as historic environmental injustices. We’re excited to partner with GoFundMe to provide our communities with safe drinking water, improved indoor air quality, and heat relief.”

– Nayamin Martinez, Executive Director for CCEJN.

This initial project from the Weather Resilience Fund was made possible by a $1.5 million donation by GoFundMe Inc.

Comite Civico del Valle is a 501 (c)(3) organization based in Imperial County, California that focuses on improving the lives of disadvantaged communities by informing, educating, and engaging the community’s civic participation. CCV partnerships improve community access to health services, research, service programs, and promote environmental justice to disadvantaged communities by way of education, capacity building, and civic participation.

Central California Justice Network’s mission is to empower our communities and secure our children’s future by eliminating negative environmental impacts in low income and communities of color in the Central Valley.
