What is the Black Panther Challenge?
In February 2018, New York resident Frederick Joseph raised over $50,000 on GoFundMe to take Harlem children to see Black Panther in theaters. He then launched the #BlackPantherChallenge and called on others to start a GoFundMe in their neighborhoods to take more kids to watch Black Panther.
Thousands of people donated, created a fundraiser in their community, or shared the #BlackPantherChallenge online. Donations came in from all 50 states and 50 countries around the world, raising nearly $1 million to help thousands of kids see the movie.
Four years later, the challenge is back on for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
“All children deserve to believe they can save the world, go on exciting adventures, or accomplish the impossible. I am grateful that all of you have answered the call and are taking action to help more kids watch their heroes on the big screen,” said Frederick Joseph.
