At 24 years old, Krissy Mae Cagney was suffering from seizures induced by her alcohol addiction; her body was experiencing the symptoms of a middle-aged alcoholic. Her doctors were adamant that if she were to continue down the path she was on, she wouldn’t be alive for much longer. After years of abusing drugs and alcohol, Krissy made the decision to get clean and stay clean.
She had already tried the typical rehabilitation programs and had seen the therapists and counselors — all of which did not work for her. There was only one thing with the power to pull her away from the temptation of drugs and alcohol: the gym.
Two years into her sobriety, Krissy decided to open her own CrossFit gym in her hometown to help show other people the power the gym had given her to get clean Within her gym, Krissy started the Reps 4 Recovery program where she gave memberships and training to recovering addicts, as long as they stayed sober.
“I firmly believe in the notion that fitness and lifting can act as treatment for substance abuse problems. I believe it, because it worked for me and I am a firsthand witness at seeing it work for countless others.”
