GoFundMe now allows donations via Venmo, so helping others is even easier

To empower even more people who are eager to help, GoFundMe recently added Venmo as a payment option for people donating to fundraisers in the U.S. Sixty-one percent of donors are most likely to hear about causes through word of mouth from their friends and family, and Venmo’s community of nearly 90 million active customers is social by nature.

With Venmo as a payment method, people can quickly, simply and securely donate to the individuals, community members, causes and organizations that matter to them via a trusted payment platform they likely have at the ready on a mobile device.

Adding Venmo as a payment option has allowed GoFundMe to deliver even more help to individuals and families affected by the devastating wildfires on the island of Maui, as donors have been able to quickly navigate to GoFundMe’s hub of verified Maui wildfire relief fundraisers and donate with their Venmo balance if available or otherwise.

New Venmo users can download the Venmo app from Google Play or iOS app stores. After selecting Venmo as their payment method during checkout, GoFundMe donors will be taken directly to the Venmo app to authorize and complete their donation. Donors can choose to donate from their Venmo balance if available or other linked payment methods, like a credit card or debit card. Payment information is encrypted, and, as with all transactions on the platform, GoFundMe offers the GoFundMe Giving Guarantee so donations of any amount are protected for one full year in the rare case something isn’t right.

New Ways to Fundraise

Adding Venmo to GoFundMe’s checkout process builds on the latest feature updates designed to make giving –and getting– help on the GoFundMe platform easier.

In April, GoFundMe launched a partnership with Nextdoor, empowering neighbors to turn their support for someone in their local community into action. The Nextdoor partnership has expanded access to help, allowing individuals to reach beyond their personal networks to connect fundraisers with a local community of people who are eager to help.

GoFundMe also recently introduced a video recording capability so organizers can choose how they want to tell their story. The “record a video” option allows people starting a fundraiser to ask their community for help as easily as talking with a friend.
