The fundraising platform will encourage tens of millions of members in the GoFundMe community to visit HealthCare.gov and spread the word about the special enrollment period.
REDWOOD CITY, CA | Today, February 15, GoFundMe launched a new effort to raise awareness about the special enrollment period established by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). As job and health insurance losses mount in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, roughly one-third of all fundraisers on GoFundMe are in the medical category.
Between February 15 and May 15, GoFundMe will encourage tens of millions of members of the GoFundMe community to visit HealthCare.gov and help spread the word about the special enrollment period. Enrollment resources will be featured on the GoFundMe homepage and shared via email and social media outreach throughout the three-month special enrollment period.
GoFundMe sent a letter to HHS Acting Secretary Norris Cochran pledging support for the special enrollment period for health coverage under the Affordable Care Act. Read the letter in full here and visit GoFundMe.com for more information.
“We share the belief that access to affordable, comprehensive health care is a right, not a privilege. Millions of Americans have lost their employer-sponsored insurance, leaving them unprotected in the midst of the worst public health crisis our nation has seen in over a century. The need for robust, affordable health care is critical, and we are encouraged by the administration’s commitment to increase access to this much-needed social safety net,” said GoFundMe’s Senior Director of Policy and Communications Bobby Whithorne.”We want to do our part. We will encourage tens of millions of people in the GoFundMe community to visit HealthCare.gov and help spread the word about the special enrollment period.”
