Have you wondered what has gotten into Iowa legislators lately? Cisgender folks in all branches of government have lost their minds over their apparent newfound awareness that transgender Iowans have been walking in their midst. Because many of us transgender Iowans, are difficult to differentiate from our non-transgender peers, government officials are now passing legislation to help differentiate us and to keep us separate and unequal. Before it’s too late, please join me in supporting Iowa Safe Schools to provide educational resources and support for those legislators most heavily afflicted before they feel compelled to create more unjust and unhelpful laws to try to stop a nonexistent threat. I urge you to help our senators and representatives get unstuck, to refocus on the true threats to Iowans including poverty, affordable housing, the environment, education, and food insecurity.
