Riley Ross is fundraising
Everesting Oklahoma
CAMPAIGN HAS ENDED
Hey everybody! This is Riley Ross here in Oklahoma City, OK, USA. In this age of global pandemic, in the age of social unrest, in the age of action to alleviate deep-seated social inequities, and in the age of ridiculous athletic gestures, I want to raise some money that ties all these things together. That, for me, is the “Everesting Oklahoma” Project.
I’m a recreational cyclist. I’ve done some Gran Fondos and some cat 5 racing but mainly I ride solo. Bicycling is huge right now, and the hottest rage in the pro peloton is "Everesting." Everesting is the act of riding or climbing up and down the same hill or mountain until you reach the height of Mt. Everest which is 29028 feet or 8848 Meters.
Oklahoma is very flat and doesn’t have that many hills but we have a few. In September of 2020, I will Everest one of the hills in Oklahoma. It will NOT be fast but it will be done. It could be Mount Scott… it could be a climb on the Talimena Drive… I’m not sure yet. I’m mapping the climbs and I’m training right now but I need some support.
To help motivate me, I’m raising money for the Putnam City Schools Foundation and for a yet to be named Oklahoma City group that donates NEW bikes to kids. The Putnam City school district is extremely diverse and we don’t yet know what next year’s school year is going to look like. Not all the kids have internet… we don’t really know what our virtual or physical resources are going to be. But there will be a challenge to learning for a lot of kids and hopefully, this money can help out.
Furthermore, if some families can’t afford the internet, they might not be able to afford bikes either. Let’s buy some bikes for some kids and get them involved in a sport that doesn’t damage their bodies and brains. Let’s give them the independence that we know bikes can afford us. Due to the configuration of GoFundMe, I can't raise funds through one project for two different nonprofits so message me if you want to help with the bike effort.
To follow my training, nutrition, and the journey to Everesting Oklahoma, follow me on Instagram, Twitter, Strava, or shoot me an email.
