Destination Imagination: Making a Run for Globals!
After winning at regionals and scoring second place at the state level, our Millis “Mamamals” Elementary Improvisational team has earned a chance to compete at Destination Imagination’s Global Finals at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, May 24-27.
Our small-town team is looking to share its big ideas with over 8,000 other participants hailing from over 15 countries. The immersive, four-day event is known as the “world’s largest celebration of creativity,” and the chance of a lifetime for our six-member team of 5th graders, many of whom have been working toward this shared goal since 1st grade. At Globals, the Millis “Mamamals” will get to showcase their Improvisational Challenge on an international stage, perform the quick- and critical-thinking Instant Challenge (which, not incidentally, they rocked at States!) and celebrate just how far they’ve come. They will also experience a jam-packed schedule of mind-opening—and mind-blowing—exhibits and events—and, above all, have fun!
Through Destination Imagination, this Millis DI team has learned to collaborate, communicate, problem solve and brainstorm on challenges that blend STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) with the arts and social entrepreneurship. In finding solutions to their Challenges, all within a time limit and a budget, they have learned and continue to learn skills that will prove to be invaluable in school, in their careers and in life.
Thank you for considering a donation. As we have just a few short weeks to raise money to defray the costs of registration fees, housing, airfare, meals and transportation, any help is appreciated!
If you’d prefer to pay by check, you may do so by sending your donation, payable to Millis DI, c/o Denise Gibbons 8 Paddock Lane, Millis, MA, 02054.
We are truly grateful for your support!
Sincerely,
Abby, Beckett, Gavin, Jonathan, Logan, Spencer, Sandy and Denise
