On July 11, 2018 Edward Colston Newton V , “Coley”, passed away after a hard fought 2 year long battle with melanoma skin cancer.

It was a tragic loss of a husband, father, brother, son, soldier, leader and friend so early in his life.

Coley joined the U.S. Army in 1990, serving in the 101st Airborne Division, the All American 82nd Airborne Division and the Asymmetric Warfare Group. Coley saw several combat tours in both Afghanistan and Iraq and after 21 years of service, he returned to the battlefield as a contracted Joint Expeditionary Team member with the Joint IED Defeat Organization. After a year, Coley was back in the Asymmetric Warfare Group as an Operational Advisor.

Through all of his selfless service, Coley always had a positive impact on the people he met and soldiers he mentored. He had an infectious laugh and always made people feel as they were welcomed and the center of attention. His genuinely caring manner was present in every conversation and interaction. Coley’s love of fellow man and the outdoors was boundless.

Coley never shirked a task and never complained. Whether during a military operation or a round of chemo-therapy, Coley kept a smile on his face, and a positive attitude.

Coley’s son, Lee was his world. And his light was his wife Katherine. We can honor his legacy by saying thank you through support to Lee’s education.
