The increasing intensity and frequency of natural disasters has significantly impacted communities across Canada. From 2019 to 2023, approximately 10,000 campaigns were created to support Canadians impacted by natural disasters. Over the past five years, Canadians have increasingly turned to community support via GoFundMe to seek relief.

Canadians have continued to support community members in need, with over $24 million CAD raised to support Canadians with natural disaster relief. These campaigns have made a lasting impact for Canadians struggling to recover from the devastation caused by natural disasters.

Help Rebuild Merritt BC

Merritt, British Columbia was devastated by flooding in November 2021. Over 7,000 residents felt the life altering effects. Homes were washed away, three schools were impacted, and the entire town was evacuated. Over 366 homes were deemed uninhabitable, and the town is still recovering. All funds are going toward rebuilding homes and helping Merritt residents recover from the flooding through financial support.

The McGee Family – Impacted Tantallon Fires

Micaela Finlayson created this GoFundMe campaign on behalf of the McGee family after the wildfires in Tantallon, Nova Scotia burned down their family home in May 2023. With their home and most of their belongings destroyed by the wildfire, the McGee family used the funds to find temporary housing and start rebuilding their lives.

Navan Farmers Relief Fund

In May 2022, a storm ripped through Navan, Ontario and caused severe damage to multiple farms, which continues to impact the way of life for farmers in the area. This GoFundMe was created by the community to help them rebuild and transition back to a normal life.
