Help Ignite Young Futures with the Raheem Sterling Foundation

The Raheem Sterling Foundation envisions a world where every young person, regardless of their start in life, has access to the tools, opportunities, and support they need to thrive. We are dedicated to empowering young people and helping them to break down the barriers that stand in their way, enabling them to take control of their own futures.

At the heart of our mission are the Foundation’s Power of 7 guiding principles – social mobility, employment, education, enterprise, leadership, creativity, and community. Our Power of 7 isn’t just a list of words; they are actionable pillars that have already created real, lasting impact for many young people. By focusing on these key areas, the Foundation aims to create a long lasting and impactful framework that uplifts, educates, and inspires the leaders of tomorrow.

We’ve already created some incredible opportunities to empower young people with the support of Raheem Sterling. But with your help, we can do so much more.

    Our ‘Power of 7’ Projects

    Leadership – Brent Goes Global

The Brent Goes Global project is a newly launched volunteering initiative to help strengthen future career paths of young people by allowing them to experience community-established social action projects, explore new cultures, make intercultural friendships. At the heart of the Brent Goes Global project is a commitment to improve education, employment and social mobility for young people, mirroring both the Raheem Sterling Foundation and Young Brent Foundation’s mutual ethos. The aims of the project include enhancing the group’s knowledge and appreciation of global cultures and social action initiatives, providing experiential learning opportunities and enabling fundraising and project management experiences.

    Community – Knife Crime

Created in collaboration with Brent Council and the Metropolitan Police, #TheBoyFromBrent campaign was launched in March 2024 with the unveiling of amnesty knife bins across Brent and a range of community partnerships designed to help bring about a positive change in communities.

Seven branded knife bins have been strategically placed around key areas in the borough, each bearing a specific message from Raheem Sterling and displaying information, support and guidance from Raheem Sterling Foundation partners. Each call to action is aligned with one of the Raheem Sterling Foundation’s Power of 7 objectives – social mobility, employment, education, community, creativity, leadership and enterprise.

Education – The Raheem Sterling Foundation Scholarship Programme

The Raheem Sterling Foundation Scholarship Programme will provide 14 students at King’s College London and the University of Manchester with financial support and mentorship over the next three years. The scholarship is open to students from Black, African and Caribbean heritage from socio-economically under-represented backgrounds in Greater London and Greater Manchester, and aims to help close the attainment gap for Black British Students, increase social mobility, and support equal access to higher education.

Employment – The Broadcast Academy with talkSPORT

In collaboration with talkSPORT, the Broadcast Academy offers young people from Manchester & London the chance to learn skills and gain knowledge in radio production, web reporting and broadcasting, as well an insight into the range of job opportunities available in sports media. Launched to inspire young people to train and prepare for a career in sports media, offer quality opportunities for young people and nurture emerging talent, the academy is firmly focused on delivering the key Power of 7 principles that the Raheem Sterling Foundation is built upon – education, employment, enterprise, community, creativity, leadership and social mobility.

Enterprise – Ark Elvin Community Kitchen

The Raheem Sterling Foundation donated £5000 to Ark Elvin Academy in support of their Community Kitchen initiative to bring families together in warm spaces over the winter months. For 18 weeks, Raheem’s former high school, Ark Elvin Academy provided a free hot meal every Wednesday evening to bring families in the local communities together. In association with Sufra Food Bank and Kitchen, a local charity in North West London that addresses both the causes and consequences of impoverishment in the community, the school invited their pupils, family and friends, plus local community groups to share a meal, and meet new people in a warm and welcoming environment.

Social mobility – Youth Justice Legal Centre

The Youth Justice Legal Centre (YJLC) partnered with the Raheem Sterling Foundation to raise awareness of children’s rights and the importance of improving young people’s experiences within the ever-evolving criminal justice system. YJLC is operated by expert lawyers with knowledge of youth justice law and provides specialist youth justice training, a resource hub and free legal advice. It works in collaboration with civil society, legal bodies and educational entities to ensure professionals have the tools and knowledge to better represent children.

    Creativity – National Portrait Gallery

A collaboration between the National Portrait Gallery and the Raheem Sterling Foundation, Making of Me is a creative youth programme that combined portraiture and photography, giving 30 young people from London the chance to develop the skills needed to progress into future creative careers. Responding to the Gallery’s wider Collection of historic and contemporary portraits, participants worked with photographers, filmmakers and digital producers over a ten-month period to create a collaborative piece of art responding to themes of self-identity, representation, place and community.
