Quick Guide: How to Donate to Save The Children
About the charity
Save the Children was founded in 1919 in London to help children who were sick and malnourished at the end of World War One. The aim of Save the Children now is to create better educational opportunities, provide better healthcare and more economic opportunities for children across the world who need them.
The work of Save the Children
So, what does Save the Children do? They have various focuses ongoing to help improve the lives of needy or vulnerable children.
Child education
Save the Children works to improve child education around the world by promoting literacy programs and providing access to quality education and teacher training. The charity also works to provide safe learning environments and advocates for children’s right to education, especially for those living in poverty.
Child hunger
In 2021, Save the Children reached 26.5 million children across the world with their health and nutrition programme. Because of pandemics, crises and cost of living worries, one in four kids don’t get the nutritious food they need to help them reach their full potential. Save the Children aims to change that with teams across the world supporting with breastfeeding, vitamin supplements and help with cash to get children the nutrients they need.
Medicine
Basic medicine can save millions of lives every year – but there are still children passing away because they don’t have access to it. 50% of deaths under five are caused by infectious diseases, 16,000 under-5s die from preventable diseases and 1 child in 5 misses routine immunisations to help protect against this. Save the Children are working to get vaccines in poorer countries, working towards education against FGM and they have an emergency help unit to dispatch to the places that need it in emergencies.
