Donating to Teenage Cancer Trust: A Quick Guide

A diagnosis of cancer is difficult for anyone, especially adolescents who are navigating life with so many changes already. The Teenage Cancer Trust is here to give specialist support for teens and their parents as they face cancer, treatment and the plethora of other things a diagnosis may throw up. You can donate to Teenage Cancer Trust on GoFundMe.

About the charity

Teenage Cancer Trust supports young people aged 13-24 to navigate cancer and improve their experience. The charity was founded in 1990. They are a national charity and have specialist units across the UK, including London, Leeds, Manchester, Glasgow and Edinburgh. H2: Teenage Cancer Trust projects

Funding for nurses

Teenage Cancer Trust provides funding for nurses who specialise in caring for young people with cancer. The charity funds three different levels of nurses: Clinical Nurse Specialists, Teenage and Young Adult Lead Nurses, and Nurse Consultants. They help young people and their families understand and navigate cancer treatment and the impact it has on their lives.

Hospital funding

The Teenage Cancer Trust also sets up specialist units in hospitals for young people going through cancer – and as they say, their units don’t feel like a hospital, which is important for many. The units feel more like home and allow friends and family to visit whilst providing specialist care for teenagers with cancer.

Youth Support Co-ordinators

Youth Support Co-ordinators work alongside the specialist nurses to help young people deal with the emotional side of cancer. They are there to talk through support available upon diagnosis, helping to let schools, colleges, universities or employers know what’s happening and also dealing with things like hair loss or difficult days.

Events for young people

Teenage Cancer Trust also runs national events for young people with cancer, helping those going through similar experiences connect, meet up, share, build connections and have fun. This includes VIP experiences at their Teenage Cancer Trust gigs, exercise programmes or Find Your Sense of Tumour – a weekend event for young people who’ve had the disease.

How the charity uses donations

According to the Teenage Cancer Trust’s annual report, £9.8 million was invested in life changing cancer services in 2021. This includes:

  • 102 front line staff there for young people with cancer
  •  2,200 young people supported through their cancer journey
  • 1,215 events put on for young people with cancer
  • 12,000 actively supported by the charity
