Have you ever felt sad all the time? You wake up in the morning and you’ve already given up on everything you have to do before you even do it. Maybe sometimes you feel unworthy or not good enough? You are hard on yourself and/or isolate your self from people and situations because you believe that you are undeserving or useless. These are just two of the many forms that lack of self confidence and self esteem may come in. It comes in many forms, it has many different causes and effects, and sometimes its unrecognizable. Self esteem and self confidence are very real issues that children deal with, and in most cases they deal with them alone.

The purpose of Exquisite Kids, a non-profit seeking 501c3, is to, not only provide a positive and fun environment for them to open up about these issues, but to help them overcome these struggles and gain a sense of self worth.“I remember growing up I suffered with self esteem issues greatly. I avoided mirrors because I didn’t want to look at myself because I thought I was ugly. I would isolate myself from social settings and being around too many people because I didn’t think anyone wanted to hear what I had to say. I’ve even went as far as attempting to commit suicide,” said Kimberly. The age range we chose for students to be apart of this was very specific for a number of reasons. Many students are in their first few years of school, developing their personalities, learn about the world, and so many others. It’s a very big time for anyone, and for a parent. If we can tackle these issues early on then we can help develop confident teenagers, who will become confident young adults, who will become confident adults. “I’ve seen many friends of mine who grew up with self esteem issues just ignore them. They don’t talk about it, they don’t let their families help them, and they just grow into un-confident adults who don’t want to do anything.

A program like Exquisite Kids can help kill the virus early on so that people don’t have to grow into unhappy and unprogressive people,” added Kimberly. The camp in development, and eventually after school program, will provide students with the opportunity to learn about who they are and what they are capable of. We want to expose them to new experiences and ways of thinking to help foster a more positive way of thinking and living. This program will provide substance to students, and not just serve as a babysitter for the summer, or during the year. They will learn skills like critical thinking, team building, problem solving, they are going to learn new and exciting things through engaging activities and field trips, while getting in touch with their creative sides.
