13 Mile haul for the RNLI & Lynmouth Boathouse.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
As many of you know - we wrote a shanty style song called ‘13 Miles’ for our latest album ‘Shanty Punk’. The song is about a legendary overland lifeboat launch in 1899, when, due to stormy conditions, the 10 tonne and 10 meter ‘Louisa’ was hauled 13 miles from Lynmouth to a more suitable launch point at Porlock Weir to aid a ship in distress.
Fast forward to last month - when the organisers of the Lynmouth 125 Year Anniversary Celebration happened to hear the track via Mark Radcliffe’s BBC Radio 2 Folk Show. This prompted an invite for us to perform the track at the end of a 13 mile sponsored haul, taking place on 13th January, which traces the route of the original overland launch.
Honoured to join the celebrations and perform the track in its spiritual home (along with a short Skinny set) - we also put ourselves forward to join the haul.
Therefore - we’ve created a Just Giving page to act as a collection jar if you fancy sponsoring the epic walk by throwing a few quid in. All proceeds will go via the Lynmouth Flood Memorial Hall to both the RNLI and Lynmouth Boathouse Fund.
PS. If any of you local to the area fancy burning a few Christmas calories and joining the haul, or any part of the day’s celebrations, you can find out more about the event here: facebook.com/events/s/125th-anniversary-of-the-overl/851378946442372/
Right - time to dig out those walking boots!
