Le Tour de Voile (RYST Fundraiser)

Through the Roseland Youth Sailing Trust, myself (Josh) and my friend, also Josh, have been given the opportunity to sail on the classic Tall Ship "Maybe" for 10 days this August.  In order to provide this experience for more local youths in the future, we are planning to complete a sponsored cycle around all of Cornwall's sailing clubs.  Me and Josh are both experienced cyclists and have completed many challenging rides together, however, this will be by far the hardest challenge yet at 200 miles and 19,000 feet of climbing making it no easy feat, but we are exited to be able to say thank you to the Roseland Youth Sailing Trust.

The Roseland Youth Sailing Trust helps to bring the sport of sailing to young people who would not otherwise have the resources or opportunity to sail.  Sailing helps to build confidence, teamwork and resilience which are fantastic life skills.  Speeding along with the wind in the sails and the sound of the water on the bow helps relieve the stress of school and exams and supports happiness and mental health in young people.

The RYST pays for sailing lessons so that they are free for children in local community schools and both Josh and I have benefitted from this. They are also amazing at supporting young people’s sailing ambitions, whether that is racing in dinghies or larger boats or having a career in the marine industry. We are both hugely grateful to the RYST for the opportunities they have given us, and we want to do our bit to help pay them back so that others can benefit like we have.

Whilst we would love to a sailing challenge to raise funds, we needed to do something manageable and within our budget!  So, we are going to use our experience in our second favorite sport, cycling.  We thought it would be good to connect the two sports so have decided to cycle to all the sailing clubs in Cornwall which are, in order of our ride:  Saltash – Torpoint - St Germans – Looe – Fowey Gallants – Fowey Royal Regatta – Porthpean – Pentwan – Rock – Padstow – Newquay – St Ives – Penzance – Mounts Bay – Helford River – Royal Cornwall Yacht Club – Flushing – Restonguet – Mylor – St Mawes. We plan to do this challenge on the weekend of the 14th of August 2021.

A place upon this voyage would typically cost £1000 per person and with your generosity, we would hope to raise enough for two places next year to give other children this same amazing opportunity.

We would also like to say thank you to some of the local businesses that helped provide these places for us. Two of these being: St  Mawes Sailing club, who are Josh Kendle's personal sponsor and Phillips Frith, my personal sponsor.

Also a huge thanks to Harry Osborn from Rapha for providing us with a bunch of cycling kit to help us out on the day!

We will update all donors with information regarding the voyage and  cycle including videos and photos along the way!
