MY QUEST FOR A NORMAL LIFE - My name is Sebastian Stace from East Maitland, I’m 4yrs old and this is my story: I have been diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy - Spastic Diplegia. Some off my symptoms include, poor balance, speech issues, and toe walking to name a few. I also suffer from hypotonia and spasticity which causes a mix of high and low tone. With the support and guidance of my Doctor and rehabilitation team we are on a quest to go to the St Louis hospital for surgery and or medical intervention that will improve my condition. The surgery is Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR). I am very keen to have the surgery done as the results are nothing short of miraculous with amazing outcomes. Cerebral Palsy is not a progressive disease, but the effects that spasticity has on the body most certainly are. My Doctor has stated that although I am currently level 1 (walking independently for short distances), that we should consider the use of walking frames and or a wheelchair for when I start school. This gives some indication on how spasticity will impact on my body later in life. Therefore, I also need intensive therapy for my function and mobility.
If there is any way you may be able to assist in fundraising it would be greatly appreciated. We are setting a goal of a 12-month period before the operation but sooner the better.
Thank you for taking time to read about my quest.
