Help my mom through this unexpected tragedy

My name is Alvin Seay. I am the youngest son of Debbie Hoffman. I want to start by saying I truly appreciate you taking the time to read my story. I am writing this story asking for help so that my mother can get back on her feet after the loss of her husband and an ongoing battle with lung cancer.

My mom’s battle with cancer began 7 months ago. While enduring her battle, my stepdad and her husband, Russ Hoffman, unexpectedly passed away on December 28th, 2023. He was 57 years young. Russ, being her main caregiver, and provider physically, emotionally, and financially has left a void many can’t begin to fill, and we all miss him deeply. My mom is trying to make it off of social security and I have tried to help as much as possible, but due to medical bills of my own I can only help but so much. My brother and sister also have helped as much as possible, but it’s very difficult for us kids to support her financially long term. Russ supported her financially as he brought in the bulk of the income. My mom has accrued an immense amount of medical debt to battle while staying on top of the monthly expenses. Treatments will continue for at least the next year. She finished her first round of chemo a month ago. Starting March 29th, she will be receiving infusions every 3 weeks for the next year, or until her body can’t tolerate the drug anymore.

My mom isn’t sure which direction she is headed in next, but I know the fear of losing the house is really weighing on her. We must trust in God's plan. We never imagined we would be in this position, and it's very humbling to have to ask for help. I am hoping this will help relieve some of the burdens one must bear after the death of a spouse as well as battling for one's life.
