GET WELL SOON WINNIE..SAVING WINNIE

Winnie Martin is a 5 year old little girl, born on the 2nd August 2010, Winnie was only given 4 days to live!
Winnie has had heart failure, liver failure and many health complications. And is also Down syndrome. After fighting many health complications Winnie showed she was getting stronger, then on the 20th Aug 2010 a nurse in the special care unit gave Winnie a drug over dose on the medicine she was prescribed possibly causing brain damage or loss of life, but winnie being the fighter she is, she was not ready to leave us and go to heaven and she pulled through.
After many weeks and complications Winnie finally got to come home but she was still very weak and vunerable and she needed to visit 3 different hospitals! Including Kings College, Brompton Royal and Maidstone Hospital.

Then in March 2011 and May 2011 Winnie was very ill and rushed to hospital and both times it was phneumonia, this meant she had to be admitted into hospital because with Down syndrome and a very weak heart it made her extremely delicate and it would of been too much stress on her heart.
Winnie's heart was getting weaker as the main duct in her heart was open and by November 2011 Winnie was rushed into Brompton Royal Hospital for living saving heart surgery.
Winnie is Down syndrome and has also had a rough journey through some real difficult times and this is not over yet as on the 20th October 2012 Winnie was taken in to Pembury Hospital very ill and then was diaognosed with leukemia Cancer (cancer in the blood).
As a family this bomb shell hit us all hard just to see Winnie again having to fight for her life causing stress, heart ache and sheer worry. On the 20th October 2012 she was taken from Pembury hospital and rushed by an ambulance to the Royal Marsden Cancer Hospital then at this stage we was given the shattering news that Winnie's percentage of survival was only 30%!! Winnie was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and a previous history of TAM.

Winnie lived at the hospital for 6 months with her mummy Nichola, Nichola slept on a sofa next to Winnie while Winnie recived 6 months of intenese chemo and treatment, the treatment included was ADE, ADE + high dose Cytarabine x2, and a total dose of Daunorubicin 240mg/m2. Each month the family were called to her bedside to say our goodbyes to her. A couple of times Winnie was rushed over to St. Georges and Evalina Guys Hospitals both times to be admitted into Intensive care to save her life.

After a long and rocky journey of a duration of 6 months as a family I could not even put into words and begin to explain what we have been through. Winnie has three older brothers Harry, Jack and Woody that think the world of her and love her so much as their only sister and they have expeirienced so much pain, heart ache, worry and just a constant fear that they would loose their little princess and the worst feeling about the enitre situation is that you are helpless and cant do anything about it.
We are trying to fund raise the amount to save Winnie's life and get Winnie treatment in America and give our little princess, a good chance of life. but at the click of a finger this could all change as the Royal Marsden has informed Winnie is at a high risk of relapsing at any moment of time. If Winnie relapeses her survival percentage is 19% meaning that Winnie will probably die but with research we have found that a Pioneering Cell Therapy in America this will increase Winnie's chance of living percentage to a staggering 90%!!
The Pioneeering Cell therapy is a succesful genetically engineered mouse T-Cells to targert the protein CD19 which is found in Leukemia and Lymphoma and on healthy B-Cells, this therapy is 90% successful!

As we have to pay for this treatment in America this can only be done with your help and support we dont ask for much but every little you give can help get us that one step closer to getting Winnie this treatment and give her a better quality of life.
