Hi everyone I'm Shekeita M. I'm a 30 years old disabled survivor of both colon & thyroid cancer. I suffer from severe Gastroparesis & Familial Adenomatous Polyposis. FAP is a very rare genetic mutation which lead to both cancers. I battle a list of other conditions such as: Endometriosis, Adenomyosis, Fibroids, Neurapathy, Tachycardia, Hypokalemia, Anemia & others.
September 2013 I went thru 9hrs of surgery to correct 13yrs of damage Endometriosis did. 4 days later I received the call that I had thyroid cancer. September & November 2013 I went thru two thyroid cancer surgeries. They removed my entire thyroid & some neck muscle that the cancer invaded. January 2014 I went thru RAI which is essentially ingesting radiation thru pill form. It's used to kill remaining cancer cells & I did this process 2x within 3 months. Almost exactly 1 year after my 1st thyroid cancer surgery I was back in surgery to have a total colectomy September 2014. At just 24yrs old my colon was carpeted in hundreds of thousands of tiny polyps due to FAP.
After this total colectomy I suffered nerve damage to my gastric stomach. As a result I was diagnosed with severe Gastroparesis. Also sometimes called GP it is the partial or total paralysis of the gastric stomach. For me it's total paralysis as of June 12th 2019 I have a GJ feeding tube. I can only get nutrition thru my tube. I can't digest much by mouth not even water because my stomach does not work! I battle nausea, vomitting & intractable pain daily! I'm on Palliative Care which is essentially 1 step before Hospice. So my health is not going to improve in the next few years so Palliative Care is helping me improve some of my quality of life.
However it's very expensive & because I'm on SSI I am only given $3 per day to eat, live & take care of medical expenses. Georgia Medicaid refuses to cover any nutriotional formula which I need to stay alive! From June 18th til today I have had no formula! Only what I've been given or sent samples of & other days I go without. I started my feeding journey at 97lbs June 5th. I weigh less now then I did then at 94lbs as of October 3rd.
It's $220 per 30 days to pay for formula out of pocket. They also refuse to cover some meds & feeding tube supplies so it makes it incredibly hard to cover this all off of $3 a day from disability!
I am scheduled for October 11th to have a port placed to get IV hydration, meds & treatments done from home. I also need a new feeding tube placed which will be my 3rd in 3 months. So all of these expenses add up quickly. I'm having to cover rent which is 65% of my total income & way more than I can afford. I can't find affordable housing here in Atlanta. Then medical expenses/nutrition/transportation/ect all come out of less than $200 I have left for the entire month!
I can't afford to continue to fight to live all by myself! So if you could spare anything at all even $1 helps! I truly appreciate your time, shares & donations! ❤
