Lucas's Hope For Son-Rise (Autism Treatment)

My vision and dream of recovery for my son with severe autism

My name is Heather Hawkins. I am a busy, working single mother to my nonverbal toddler with autism. His name is Lucas and he is 4 years old. My son is everything to me and I am pursuing recovery of his autism diagnosis. I am raising funds for two different therapeutic avenues I want to journey on to find help for my son. Although they are very different approaches, both avenues have produced promising results in many cases of autism. So I will begin our journey with them. One program I am wanting to attend is the Son-Rise program. THE SON-RISE PROGRAM  -Miracle of Love  The Son-Rise program is a parent training course on how to deal with our special children in a way that helps bring them to our world, so to speak. It reaches beyond the scope of conventional ABA therapy. This program has ASTOUNDING results with autistic children even with some children getting to the point of a full recovery after years of one on one time spent with their parents implementing the Son-Rise training. To share my most inspiring point, the son of the founders of Son-Rise was once diagnosed as severely autistic when he was Lucas’s age. His name is Raun Kaufman. Raun’s parents didn’t go the conventional route of treating autism back in the 70’s. Raun’s mother did one on one social engagement every day for three years in order to fully recover her son to the point that he displayed no autistic behaviors. Her goal was only to engage with Raun in a way that he could relate to  even though she didn't expect him to respond. Through her unconditional love and attempts to connect with him he began to improve drastically. Raun is now the CEO of the Autism Center of America. Among other children, the Son-Rise program has also fully recovered Raun’s adopted niece many years later. When one does research on the program it is truly inspiring.  A portion of this fundraiser would be for me to purchase an online course for Son-Rise for $900. I plan to implement the Son-Rise program in my home with Lucas full time on a (40 hours per week) basis starting in the summer of 2021. I will pull him mainly from public school and implement diet changes as well based on doctor recommendations which lead to the other treatment side of this fundraiser, biomedical treatments.

BIOMEDICAL TREATMENTS- Another promising route of treatments

The Son-Rise program is my first avenue of pursuing treatment for my son but there is another treatment I would like to participate in . Biomedical treatments have seen great results with parents searching for answers. Often times then not, children with autism have some problems with their guts that affect their brain. There have been many cases of children having a yeast overgrowth that is aggravating autistic “behaviors”. It creates a kind of brain fog when something else is wrong under the surface we may not see. I would love the opportunity to take Lucas to Doctor David Berger in Tampa who specializes in these types of biomedical treatments. It is costly and unfortunately NO insurance pays for it, including Medicaid. It all must come out of pocket. Depending on what the doctor finds this can be an ongoing expense for awhile. It could vary from Lucas needing certain vitamins, to putting him on a special diet, many labs and tests etc. It all depends on Lucas’s special needs because every case of autism is different and should be treated as such. The remainder of the funds from the Son-Rise goal will go toward funding biomedical testing directly afterwards. So In conclusion, one side of this crowdfunding will cover the behavioral side of what my son needs from me and how to engage with him on a daily basis with the Son-RIse program. The other side would cover any physical issues my child has that could be challenging him on a daily basis. I could only hope that I did justice in explaining our goals and I pray people will support my dream of being able to see a future with hope of recovery for my child. I want my son to have a fulfilling life full of opportunities in this world we live in.
