Support Nahuat Pipil leaders Resist Privatization

Donation protected
Carlos Roberto Grassl Lecha, Board Member of Banco Azul (Blue Bank), has requested permission from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources to build a hydroelectric dam in the territory of indigenous peoples Nahuat Pipil. The communities that will be impacted include Nahuizalco, Sisimitepet, Pushtan, Loma de Muertos, among others, in the Department of Sonsonate, El Salvador. The Council of native people Nahuat Pipil  needs your support:

1. Make a donation to cover the transportation and food expenses of indigenous leaders to continue mobilizing communities against this privatization project.

2. Sign this petition: https://www.change.org/StopSonsonateDam

3. Post a comment on the Ministry of Environment website (see website ) under "Realice su observación al proyecto". Project name "pequeña central hidroeléctrica nuevo Nahuizalco II"

About the person leading this fundraiser: I, Joanna Beltrán Girón, am the person leading this fundraiser. I am a student, poet, and organizer from New York. I am a friend of the Tatas and Nanas (elders) from Sonsonate. Sonsonate is the department where the communities have been impacted by the previous constructions of the dams and that will be impacted by any future constructions of dams. The organization I am in contact with is the Consejo de Pueblos Originarios Nahuat Pipil (in English: Council of native people Nahuat Pipil). I am raising funds for the Council of native people Nahuat Pipil. This organization is fighting the construction of the dam. The funds will be spent in the following manner: the funds will be used to pay for transportation, food, and hygienic items. Transportation has been minimal in Sonsonate due to the COVID19 restrictions. So, many of the elders from the Council of native people Nahuat Pipil and other organizers have had to walk by foot to mobilize from community to community. So, the funds will help them pay for transportation. As they make their way to meetings, they will use the funds to pay for food and hygienic items. The latter will be essential as indigenous communities have been greatly impacted by COVID19, and so there's a need to purchase hygienic items to keep themselves protected (from COVID19) in their mobilization to meetings. My withdrawal plan is the following: I will make wire transfers to the lead elders from the Council of native people Nahuat Pipil. Due to the communal-oriented leadership in the Council of native people Nahuat Pipil, the beneficiaries will be the leaders/organizers from this organization as well as community members in the communities described above (communities: Nahuizalco, Sisimitepet, Pushtan, Loma de Muertos). Lastly, the purpose of this campaign is to support indigenous community leaders/members to pay for transportation, food, hygienic items, and other expenses that will help them in their organization for the protection of their sacred land (i.e. other items that will be purchased with the funds are ink for printers and paper for printers). Thank you all for your kind support!
