Pueblo a Pueblo, a nonprofit organization whose mission is "to improve the health, education, and food security of families in rural coffee-growing communities in Latin America through integrated community and school-based programs."
We invite you to become a part of an innovative project that combines art, education, sustainability and civic engagement. During the 2018-19 Spring Break, UW-W faculty members Teresa Lind and Teri Frame will be taking a contingent of eight students to Santiago, Guatemala to assist Pueblo a Pueblo with its WASH (Water, Sustainability, and Hygiene) program. While there, we will make ceramic water filters, build a kiln in which they can be fired, and train the kiln’s overseers how to fire it using affordable and sustainable materials and firing techniques.
Participating in this project will have a tremendous impact on our students. Not only will it give them the opportunity to share their newly acquired technical skills and material knowledge, but they will gain a first-hand understanding of what it means to be a global citizen, and to experience life in a developing country.
