Support for Tyler

Dear Friends,

First off, I want to thank you for reading this and considering our request for donations. We did not enter into this decision lightly, we’re doing this because at this point it’s critical.

Some of you may know my brother, Tyler Langenfeld. He has always been an adventurer and loves being outdoors: camping, hiking, and rock climbing. More importantly, Tyler is a gentle and kind man, and a loving husband. Right now, he needs help, and I’m asking you for it.

On Sunday, April 30th, Tyler suffered a devastating accident. It was so severe, at this moment we’re not sure what the outcome will be. Tyler was paragliding in an area near Palomar Mountain in San Diego county when he had a sudden loss of air in his kite and fell more than 30 feet, crashing to the ground. When Tyler hit the ground he sustained multiple, severe injuries including multiple fractures in his right leg, left ankle and foot and most of the vertebrae in his spine including his tail bone. Tyler's instructor contacted emergency services and they airlifted Tyler to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, California where he is now awaiting the next major surgery.

Tyler is currently in tremendous pain, heavily sedated, and fighting for his life. His injuries are serious and the road to recovery is going to be very painful and long (12 months if not longer). He is fortunate that he was not paralyzed so we do have hope that Tyler can recover. However, to what extent, we do not know. The next big hurdle is the 12-hour spine surgery.

Here’s why I’m asking for help on behalf of my brother. After being unemployed, Tyler was finally happy to start working at a full-time job he really liked, but he was still in the probationary phase of his job when this horrific accident occurred last Sunday. This means he does not have insurance through his new job. Tyler does have some coverage through the ACA but it is quite limited, and considering the neurosurgeon said it is unlikely Tyler will be able to work again, he has no other options for medical coverage. In addition, Tyler’s wife, Arleen, works two part-time jobs which offer no health insurance.

We are reaching out for donations, and any and all donations received will go toward the extensive medical expenses and other necessary living expenses.

If you are not able to help financially, please keep this family in your prayers. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I will update everyone on Tyler’s upcoming spinal surgery.

Thank you so much,
