Help Bella battle with traumatic brain injury

Donation protected
This is a fundraiser for Bella Howe. We have been contacted by so many incredibly generous people wanting to offer their support after her accident.

The journey ahead will be long and extremely difficult for her. All money raised will help Bella with her ongoing care, rehabilitation expenses and to support her during her recovery while she is unable to work.

The accident

On Sunday 17 July Bella was involved in an accident at a natural terrain MX event in Brookton. She was standing in the spectator area filming her partner Ronin go over a jump on his final race, when he came off and his bike took off and hit her in the upper body at full force. The accident came completely out of nowhere and we are stunned that none of the other spectators were injured. To say it was a freak accident is a total understatement.

She was put into an induced coma and taken to ICU with severe head injuries. After a week in ICU battling a severe brain injury we learnt Bella had a diffuse axonal injury. Those first couple of weeks in hospital was the most terrifying time of our lives, but with her fighting spirit shining through, Bella proved the doctors wrong and did so many things we were told she may never be able to do. She woke up from the coma, and has slowly been teaching herself how to walk, talk and live again.

We are so appreciative to all of the medical staff, emergency responders and rehab teams who have contributed to giving her her a fighting chance.

She has had lots of love and support from all of her friends, family and of course Ronin who was thankfully cleared of any injuries himself. We believe the constant messages of support and well-wishes have helped her come back to us, and for that we are eternally grateful.

But she has a long road ahead, as we are now learning about the long term effects of traumatic brain injuries and the impact to her ability to live and work independently.

To everyone who has contributed to Bella’s recovery, however large or small, we sincerely thank you from the bottom of our hearts! It means the world to us, and to us she is the world.

We will post updates here on her progress.

This page is organised by Bella’s aunty, Shelley, on behalf of Bella and her mum Emma. Any other gofundme pages created for Bella are unverified, so please be wary of scammers.
