UPDATE:

Yesterday, June 29th I receive this video, Rufi died on the 28th.

uploaded two videos this one and the original uncut version. I am going to try and see about getting more video, this one was not available to me until just yesterday. If you look carefully the other driver never fell off his bike, hitting Rufi directly from the back and launching him forward and to the side. The other driver does not seem to stop in this video, yet I was told that he too was in critical condition and in a coma. Possible coverup?

Rufi was murdered by manslaughter and so far there has been absolutely nothing done with no charges on the police report. I do not speak Thai but tomorrow plan to have everything translated that we received from the police... there is no sense of justice here, with all the blame being pointed at Rufi, when in fact it looks like almost a targeted hit and run!

Introduction:

A young life taken far too soon. Rufan Faraz was like a brother to my wife (first cousin). Over a decade ago he had traveled to Thailand, where we first met. My wife would simply call him Rufi or by his last name, Faraz if ever annoyed with him. He was just a young and energetic kid working at an Indian restaurant in Bangkok at the time.

Massively under weight and with blood shot eyes, due to lack of sleep. I remember meeting him for the first time. Rufi had grueling all day and into the night work schedule, it was shocking sight. But I remember the very first thing we did, was go out and get a proper lunch! Shortly after that we were able to get him some better accommodation and bit of financial support.

So many young people like him flee their home countries in search of a better life. But instead, all too often people find themselves trapped in a situation they never thought was possible. My wife and myself were able to meet many refugees in Bangkok and it was truly an eye opening experience.

Rufi was a real trooper and quickly befriended many people, working with us connecting with others in similar dire situations. During this time we had a lot of fun with Rufi helping others in need. From throwing small pizza parties to visiting and feeding those in Thai immigration detention centers.

But, as time went by, my wife and I had to leave Thailand. After more than two years, Rufi was left alone. We would always stay in touch and visited him from time to time.

He slowly was putting his life together as well. It was not long until he met a very nice Chinese girl, by the name of Nova. They got engaged after sometime, and had planned a life together. Rufi was now 31 years old, over 10 years had already passed. He had worked at many restaurants, even at a reality company, among many other gigs. He was smart, funny, and had a huge heart.

Just 11 days ago now, everything changed forever. While riding back home on his scooter late at night, another motorbike suddenly collided with him. It was all caught from a distance on a CCTV security camera. The incident shows another motorbike driver at high speed hitting him, instantly knocking Rufi off his scooter and crashing head first onto the sidewalk pavement. Rufi was unconscious at the scene, but was quickly taken to the emergency.

As he's rushed to the emergency, doctors scramble and perform craniotomy brain surgery. I would later find out his entire skull had fractured in numerous locations. Severe brain damage to the left hemisphere was sustained, but the doctors were able relieve the pressure and stop the bleeding. It was only shortly after this that we were even made aware of these events.

Rufi was all alone again, his fiancée was in China. Due to visa issues, she was not allowed in. Being an American, I was lucky not needing a visa, and so a flight was booked the following day. Rufi did not deserve this. That's all that was going through my mind. Not knowing what to expect, armed with just a prayer, I left.

Rufi was in coma, while badly beat up, seemed to stabilize. On Monday the 24th of June, more CT scans were made. During this time the doctors learned he had a bacterial infection in the lungs, even though he was already being administrated powerful antibiotics every 8 hours. Wednesday evening rapidly he went from being in a stable condition, to septic shock in a matter of hours. Rufi would be transferred to the ICU. There he actually dies for five minutes, but they're able to revive him.

By Thursday it was clear that he was fighting for his life. During this time I was running around trying to do what little I could. The idea for a GoFundMe was on my mind, and wanted to make one for his recovery. But unfortunately, within just a day or two, it would become clear that a recovery is highly unlikely. And then just the following day, on Friday at exactly 2:38 PM, I watch him take his last breaths. Just like that, he's gone.

Now all that is left are memories, which we will all cherish for the rest of our lives. But his brothers, mother and many close family members, are left without a brother.

Because Rufi is in Thailand and his family is back in Pakistan, his body needs to be shipped, all hospital bills need to first be paid, funeral arrangements still need to be made, with many expenses and with little resources, it's an impossible task for his family alone.

I humbly ask whatever God may put in your heart, please consider to donate to this fund raiser. All funds will go to the expenses that have yet to be paid, including hospital bills, airfare back to Pakistan, funeral costs and if any funds are left, will sent to his mother and brother back in Pakistan.

Thank you so much to everyone who spent the time to read this story. I didn't know what to write, but decided that Rufi deserves to let the world know just how good of a person he was. May he leave a lasting legacy with those loved ones around him. For those interested I will gladly post updates here. God bless!
