BIKE CAR ACCIDENT BREAKS MY BROTHER'S BACK

Donation protected
Hi, I'm Susan. My brother Clancy was struck on his bike from behind on Sunday July 17th around 11:00 pm. He was on the errand of buying a couple groceries at Albertson’s for a neighbor. The driver fled the scene but there were eyewitnesses who stepped in immediately and called 911. The police were able to apprehend the driver in just minutes - due to the quick work of the people who helped. The woman driver is still in jail with a large bail set. Yes, he did have lights on his bike and was obeying traffic laws, the back bike light was flashing. The police report will be filed in 7-10 days from the date of the accident and we don't have a copy of that yet. It will tell us more about the driver. No insurance payments are expected. By the way, to leave the scene of an accident where injury or death occurred is a felony.

Clancy sustained multiple lacerations, bruises and scrapes (one laceration very close to his left eye, but it's fine). He received sutures and some skin glue for the lacerations. His forehead is completely black from bruising, and his legs, arms, and feet are healing well from bruising. But the worst thing is that his back was broken on L1, a "burst fracture". He needed surgery and an implant to stabilize the vertebrae since it is now compromised. Surgery was performed on Tuesday. Things looked bleak and he was still in a lot of pain. He stood up on Wednesday for a minute with two staff people helping. On Thursday, he stood up and was transferred to get an xray of his spine, where he saw the implant device on the xray screen and described it as a three-prong stabilizer. Today he walked 50 steps!!!! That is the good news! So, he is set to be discharged from the hospital soon.

That is good news and bad news! Good news because he can walk and is alive!!! But bad news because he doesn't have appropriate living quarters. He lives in his rustic camper trailer with no air conditioning and a very short bed, also two steps. I don't live in the same city - he lives in Boise, I live in Phoenix.

Physical Therapy said that he is not to be lifting anything over 10 pounds, no twisting and no bending - except bending at the hips. His full recovery will be a couple of months. It really depends on his body.

As I have told people what is going on, I have received requests to begin a GoFundMe. They said that a link is so much easier for them to contribute. This will help him get suitable lodging for a couple months while he heals completely. I know this seems like a big ask, but it will cover temporary lodging for a couple months until he can get back to his life and camper trailer. (The Boise rents are more than double what they were just a couple years ago.)

Thank you to those who have been praying and thank you for continued prayers!

We are so fortunate that Clancy is ok. It could have been way worse. He has been very humbled and grateful for everything and to those who have reached out and prayed for him (I told him who you were).

For those of you who don't know Clancy, he is a funny and super generous person. Prior to Uber, he owned a successful taxi company with five drivers. Now he is a craftsman, selling his treasures online.

If you haven't had the pleasure of meeting Clancy, hopefully you will!
