Breaking into Tech, from Chef to Developer

“Whatever you do, do it with determination. You have one life to live; do your work with passion and give it your best. Whether you want to be a chef, doctor, actor, or mother, be passionate to get the best results”
- Alia Bhatt

The above quote is one of many I feel describes my disposition. Let me give you some insight into my life. I was a cook who was passionate about what I did although it did not provide a life of luxury. I was still dedicated. But I soon learned that fate had another plan for me, I was injured on the job and couldn’t work. Devasted I had to come up with alternatives. That's when I decided that I needed another way to provide for my family. This was the time for a career change. I wanted nothing more than to give them all they deserved.

I was introduced to app called Career Karma which helps an individual from marginalized communities break into tech and thus my journey began. I had met a group of “fantastic” individuals who I now and forever call family. When passion meets purpose. I signed up for Lambda School to become a Full Stack Software Engineer. Currently, I am still a student.

Chapter two, I had saved up enough money to move to in Stone Mountain, Ga where there are more tech opportunities and most of my coding team. This, I knew would ensure my path to successfully completing my coding courses. However, my situation rapidly changed as I was hit with major unforeseen expenses that involved my children and my family as a whole. That event cut into my savings tremendously. I have been doing odd side jobs, from cutting grass to cleaning old houses, to keep money coming in. That has all taken a toll on my already injured body.

I am diligently striving to change my life. I put in 40+ hours a week with my coding boot camp and studies. I am afraid that I will not be able to continue due to my lack of funds. If I go to work, it will have to be full time because of my responsibilities and that will take me away from school. I am about 5 months from finishing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am truly dedicated to completing Lambda and being successful. My goal with this page is to get enough financial help that will help me to bridge the gap to complete Lambda and get my first tech job.
