WORLD CHOIR GAMES 2024

Help Us Bring Back the Gold... Again!

Takoma Academy is excited to announce that, the Takoma Academy Chorale, under the direction of Mrs. Lulu Mupfumbu, will compete in the 13th World Choir Games, the largest choral competition in the world. In 2018 the Takoma Academy Chorale proudly participated in this competition in South Africa and won 1 Gold and 2 Silver Medals. There were 10 Choirs from the US that competed and brought home a total of 14 medals, 3 of which were from Takoma Academy!

Takoma Academy is the only choir from Maryland that will participate in this competition. Occurring every two years on a different continent, the World Choir Games is based on the Olympic ideals, which aim to peacefully unify people and nations connected by song in a fair competition. It attracts upwards of 25,000 individuals representing hundreds of choirs from around the world. The competition will be held on July 9-20, 2024 in Auckland, New Zealand.

In addition to competing, the students will have an opportunity to visit and learn about the people and cultures of New Zealand and Austraila, as well as participate in service projects.

The World Choir Games will provide our students with a once in a lifetime opportunity to do so on an international stage. We invite you to join our us to support Takoma Academy students to raise funds to make it to this competition.

The Challenge

We need to raise $300,000 for our students to compete in this world-renowned event. Through a variety of fundraising efforts this school year, the Takoma Academy community, Chorale students, and their parents are working diligently to raise funds. Yet, we need greater support from our larger community to achieve this goal. We urgently need YOUR support to achieve our objective to raise at least 70% of our goal by March 15, 2024.

Below is a recap of the 2018 WCG Experience!

In 2020 our students were working hard to prepare for the 2020 World Choir Games in Belgium. In a heart-breaking turn of events, our plans were halted by the pandemic. Below is the promotional video and testimony of our former students that had hoped to experience the WCG in 2020.
