Bring the Siklosis home for Xmas

Hello friends,

I want to introduce you to some friends of mine, Gabor and Candy Siklosi. We have been friends for 16 years and they are special people. We first met at church in Arkansas and Brett and I were in their small group. This also happened to be the same year I was pregnant with Caleb. Candy dropped everything and loaded up her 4 little kids and came to my house to be with me when I went into labor with Caleb so I didn’t have to be alone. Gab stayed at the hospital with us all day while waiting for Caleb to be born as we didn’t have any family in town. From that point on they have always had a special place in our hearts. We moved on and so did they but we kept up via Facebook with each others lives.

Fast forward several years. The Siklosis have always had a heart for sharing their faith and a love for coffee. They searched for a way to combine these two passions of theirs and ultimately decided they felt called to pick up their family and move to Guatemala to begin work with coffee farmers as a way of sharing the Gospel and providing ways for the people of Guatemala to get themselves out of the poverty trap that is so prominent in marginalized communities. They are the founders of the non-profit, Global Community Works. GCW focuses on helping marginalized communities gain access to resources for sustainable development. Gab and Candy are living in the area so they can better assess the needs of these communities that will aid them in determining the best way to address and offer solutions while promoting dignity, innovation, and business solutions that will work over the long term.

Moving to Guatemala meant giving up everything…their jobs, their home, the comfort of living in the US, and their extended family. While they made this move willingly, it also came with hardships…loss of income, disease diagnosis, adjustments to living in another country, challenges of raising their kids in another country. The Siklosis have been in Guatemala for five years. Within the first year their youngest daughter was diagnosed with Diabetes. That is a challenging disease if you are living in the US and much more challenging living in another country. Also during this time they had one son in college and just this past summer had their first grandson arrive.

We have entered the holiday season and most of us will be spending time with our families eating turkey, watching football, and just enjoying time with our loved ones. It’s something most of us take for granted. I am asking my friends, and friends of friends to help my friends, Gab, Candy and their two daughters get home for Christmas this year. They miss their family and would love to spend the holidays with them. They would love to see that new grand baby and love on him. Not only are they wanting to spend Christmas with family but also are wanting to use their time back in the US to visit colleges for their daughter who graduates May 2017, for Gab to search for a job as they are needing to move back to the US to better care for their daughter with Diabetes, and to travel to share about GCW. This is the season for thankfulness and giving. If there is any way you can help to give back to this family who has given so much for others, I would be grateful and I know they would be too.

Thank you,

Jacque
