Brooklyn Nicole Keys and family need your help

Update: Brooklyn is in palliative care now. She's a beautiful little baby, alert and perfect except for her fragile little heart. It's beautiful, sweet and unbelievably sad to create memorials while she's still with us. Pierce Keys and Heather Keys each cut locks of hair to go in lockets. Her little hands and feet were printed for framing and future tattoos, and molds were made of her foot and hand so they can have little sculptures to remember her.

  • Now we wait and love on her. Such a difficult thing to do. I guess it's better to know in advance that this precious little spirit is only going to bless us for such a short time.

The Keys and Schuster family are asking for your help to offset some of the costs that will result from our precious baby's medical challenges. Born 5/4/23, Brooklyn came into this world 3 weeks early with a congenital heart disease, known as hypoplastic left heart syndrome.

The defect was detected through imaging, allowing for the family to prepare, as best as possible. These babies, in order to be given the best chance for survival need to be delivered in specialty pediatric hospitals. It was decided that Houston would be the best place for her medical needs.

My grandson and his wife, Pierce and Heather Keys, from Midland, had their first visit to Houston a couple of weeks ago. They were told to go home and come back the next week to stay until delivery. Once back home, Pierce became ill and after two trips to urgent care, was transported to the hospital where he stayed for three days. His diagnosis is ciliac disease.

This divertion resulted in them getting to Houston a week late and just in the nick of time as Brooklyn decided to come early, the day after they arrived. Had she come any earlier, she might not be here today. God has his plan and has wrapped his arms around our baby.

The kids are on a waitlist to get into the Ronald McDonald House but even with their urgency, it looks like it will be a month wait. In the meantime, they and Pierce's mom, Amanda Keys are in motel rooms wiating for a room to open up.

Brooklyn will have to remain in the hospital for an unknown period of time while waiting for her first heart surgery and recovery. She and the family are looking at a lifetime of care for this special baby, with additional surgeries to come.

For now, we need your help to build a fund to help offset some of the expenses that are mounting up. Pierce is unable to work right now and even if he could the money would only be enough to cover their rent and home expenses, so the family is pitching in all we can but there's a limit to our resourses.

I ask that you pray for our special baby and if you can, please donate any amount you wish to help get us through this difficult time. Brooklyn Nichole Keys needs prayers above all else as she's such a tiny little thing with a very special heart.
