Brother Firefighter Needs Our Help Now
Donation protected
Master Firefighter Aaron Hauert has been with the Virginia Beach Fire Department since 2004.
He's served the citizen's of our city for the past 15 years working out of Davis Corner, First Landing, Seatack, and the North End.
I've had the privilege of working with Aaron for a long time.
I've watched him deliver first rate care to the people of this city off of Engine's 2 and 15. I've seen him squeeze Ladder 2 into spots the Battalion Chief's Suburban could barely go. Time and again he's put himself out there for people in need. Whether it's an EMS call, on the fire ground, on a vehicle extrication, or during a maritime rescue off the Fire Boat.
But now Aaron needs our help.
Last night (February 9th) Aaron was on duty at Station 15 when he received a phone call from home...
His garage was on fire and his mom and dad (who were in town visiting) were frantically calling him. They were able to save the pets and get out safely but - despite the best efforts of the responding Fire crews - the fire had too much of a head start and spread too quickly.
Thankfully his parents are okay, and his four kids (two boys and two girls - ages 5 to 12) weren't home at the time.
But they've lost pretty much everything else.
Books, clothes, toys... Furniture, food, tools... All gone.
And while insurance will cover some, it won't cover all the bills that will be coming in. And it won't be able to replace everything they've lost.
Aaron would never ask for help. Like most of us he's used to being the one who helps - not the one who needs it.
But now's our opportunity to step up and help a brother in need.
Any amount will make a difference.
Thanks.
