On April 14th  at roughly 5:30 PM  Jack Sr. and Jack Jr. were driving down M44 just outside of Belding,Mi.  A young man driving in the opposite direction decided to cross over in a no passing zone, He passed 2 cars and a semi truck and stricking Jack Sr. and Jr. at nearly 80 miles a hour. Sr. was driving and as soon as he saw the car coming at them he tried to trun to the right to avoid getting hit dead center, Stil even his quick reaction didn't stop the accident from happening although it did save both of their lives. Had they taken the direct hit center on both men would not be here today.
Jack Sr. had to have the jaw of life used to get him out of the truck, he was life flighted to our nearest trauma hospital where he is still in ICU. In the accident he substained 20 broken ribs, Broken Sternum, both legs, femer broke, left foot has several breaks and he has to have complete reconstructive surgery on his right foot. A feeding tube is being placed to help maintian his nutrition and he is currently lightly sedated in order to help his body heal.  As a man in his mid 70's this accident is mnore then life changing, bodies do not heal as smoothly and as fast as they do when we are young. To say this is a long road of recovery doesn't come close to just how much time its going to take and he will never be the same because of this. Jack Sr. is a father, grand father, great grand father, uncle  and afriend to many. He is a man of his word and someone anyone can count on not matter what.
Jack Jr was also in ICU and as of yesterday was down graded to Critical Care. In the accident he was transported by ambulance to the same trauma hospital that his dad was brought to. He suffered 5 broken ribs, broken leg, 3 complete breaks in his foot, fractured sternum and has a blood clot in his lung.  He is stable as of now but like his father has surgeries ahead of him and a vey long road to recovery. Later this week he will be transfered to a rehabiltation hospital to contiue to recover and learn to walk again. Jack Jr. was the sole provider to his family. working 6 or 7 days a week at times to make sure ends meet.  Like his father Jack Jr is a very hard working man, loved by many, someone anyone can count on and has always put his family before himself. He would never turn away any person who needs a helping hand. He and his wife Melanie are currently raising their nearly 2 year old granddaughter as well.  Melanie was set to start work this past Monday but due to the accident she is not able to. Caring for her husband and father in law is top priority right now.
Becuase of loosing their entire source of income we as their family and friends are starting this GoFundMe page to help ease at least one stress during this time. We are also hosting a Benefit Dinner with all proceeds to go to the Bush family to help with anything they may need while Sr. and Jr. continue to recover.  Any and every bit is a huge help right now. Even gas cards and gift cards for local restaurants is of great help as well as all their family is taking shifts to sit with and help the guys.
If you would like to help with the benefit dinner please look up Beckey Geiger-Stevens on Facebook as she is hosting this and is a close family friend of the family. The date for the dinner along with the address will be posted publically later today of this week. I know she would appreciate all the help. There will be a 50/50 drawing silent auction and dinner.
Thank you for reading this and taking time out of your day. This family needs our entire community behind them.  Lets show them all what a community can do when one of our own are in need.
