Chadburn Family Emergency Expenses

My very good friend, Jamie Chadburn, was recently hit with the devastating news that her mom has Stage 2 Pancreatic Cancer.

Initially, things looked extremely bad and we thought this trip would end in a funeral. However! Some good news has finally come about. The latest report from the oncologist has given Melanie 6 to 12 months without treatment AND a 50% chance that her tumor will shrink to where it is operable giving the opportunity for possibly years to come if she undergoes aggressive treatment. Melanie agreed to try some treatment and Jamie booked their flights down. Given the odds, this is not a holiday season that the Chadburn family can miss spending with their Utah family. 

Jamie, two of her kids and her husband flew to Utah on November 2nd with the intent of staying there through at least the holidays to create some memories with family and help relieve her siblings who have been providing care to their mom over the last few weeks. Her 16 year old daughter is already down in Utah and her adult son is flying down as well with his wife and kids. 

Unfortunately, Jamie is the sole bread winner for her family of 5 and has not been at her job long enough to qualify for FMLA. She also does not have the PTO to cover her full absence and while she anticipates working part time she is having to run two households for now - one in Alaska so that they have a home to return to and one in Utah while they temporarily reside there. Her employer has been gracious enough to help preserve her job and her family’s insurance in her absence, but she will not be getting her usual paychecks. 

To help Jamie and her husband focus on what is most important right now, we are trying to help raise the funds so that she doesn’t have to work multiple jobs to make ends meet. Anything above our goal of $3,000 will go to her parents as they are retired and her mom is uninsured at this time meaning cancer treatments will be costly. 

Her family is also seeking positive thoughts and prayers directed their way to help them through this difficult time so any help is very much appreciated.
