On Thursday May 11th, Chris and I were headed to watch our daughter participate in her last track and field event of her sophomore year. This was Mother's Day weekend and our 30th wedding anniversary was to follow on Monday May 15th. We had no idea that Chris would end up in the hospital for a month. We took Chris to the emergency room Thursday night, he was admitted and Friday morning at 6:30 am went in for emergency surgery to have his right foot amputated. He was kept on a ventilator and in the ICU at Community South Hospital. He had a second surgery on Monday where they had to amputate his right leg above the knee. He fought for his life in the ICU for 7 days, kept sedated and on the ventilator. We were told by every doctor and nurse that cared for Chris that they could not believe that he had survived. He was very sick with 3 different types of infections, one of which was moving up his right leg at the rate of ½ inch an hour. With many prayers and Chris' fighting spirit, he was taken off of the ventilator on Wednesday May 17th, and moved to the surgical floor to begin his recovery. He was finally released on June 8th to come home and begin to use the techniques that he learned to live his life with the new challenges. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated.
