Chuck the Bull Needs a New and Free Life

"A carnivore and a pescatarian walk into a bar." That's how it began. Gabby Seagrave and I (Alana Forrest) have been friends for over 40 years. We met for a beer one night at a brew pub, and Gabby shared there was a neglected bull living on a piece of property next door to her and LaDonna's place in Sonora, CA. Lovingly named Chuck, he had been brought to the 1-acre property with his brother. Unfortunately, his brother was met with the demise that young steers and bulls do. Sadly the absentee owner chose to slaughter the brother in front of Chuck rather than using a licensed professional and location. It didn't go smoothly much to the neighbor's dismay and anger. Although neighbors contacted animal control, Chuck remained on the property. Bottom line is Chuck is a very sweet and attentive herd animal, left on his own without sufficient feed, by an owner who lives 2 hours away.
After some honest conversation about the absolute necessity to save Chuck from a similar fate, Gabby and I have been working hard to find a home for him. Each offer would eventually end with Chuck being Chuck roast. Despite several people and organizations saying they would help initially, this has taken months to find the right home and the transportation to get him there. Moral of the story: After one beer we were all in on rescue mode, but we quickly realized that bull rescue was "not a thing." Gabby’s dog Cora (pictured) has become such sweet friends with Chuck, and we aren’t ones to give up easily - so it’s time to free Chuck !
We are excited to say Chuck has a lovely opportunity to be transported (by a pro who knows what she is doing) from Sonora to Fort Bragg (5.5 hours) where Chuck will live out his hopefully long life with a few goats and another steer. The cost to purchase Chuck is $1200, transport is $1100 and we want to give the new owner some hay and veggies to keep Chuck happy for a while. We would appreciate any help of any amount to raise the funds to get Chuck to his forever home. Thanks in advance for your love and care of sentient beings like Chuck.
