Clean Water for Amazonian Indigenous Communities
Tax deductible
Donate to help bring clean water to remote indigenous communities in the Ecuadorian and Peruvian Amazon. These communities have been affected by oil production and natural contaminants, causing massive health problems and heavy metal exposure.
Last year I traveled to one of these communities to implement a clean water system and saw the profound effect water can have. This summer local Ecuadorian non-profit organization Fundación Raiz will implement and study the effect of water wells on the health and well-being of remote Indigenous communities in the Amazon.
The well itself includes:
The physical hole and concrete tubes for reinforcement
A solar pump system.
A storage unit.
Underground piping.
A filtration system capable of separating pure water from biological and metal contaminants.
Faucets for each home.
The total cost of each well is about $10,000. This cost includes all of the physical tools and materials, local labor costs, and transportation of materials to remote villages. A more detailed cost analysis is available upon request.
