Amy Update #2:
Cannot begin to thank you for your love and support throughout her journey to wellness, touching how much love is coming our way.
Amy is home recovering, helping with some things but she’s getting some independence with the help of a great OT fella who taught us some good skills and safety tips yesterday. I’m very proud of her daily progress. She won’t be left alone for 1-2 weeks but she is on her way. The pain is real but she’s strong and tenacious. Special thanks to her devoted husband and mother in-law Bobbie for being here for my girl, my heart and soul.
Hi Everyone.
I’m fundraising for my daughter Amy. She has a rare, painful disease called Tenosynovial Giant Cell Tumor. It's an aggressive, non-malignant tumor on her left hip.
Even with insurance, the uncovered expenses for surgery, lost wages and other expenses is really daunting.
If you feel able to offer a few dollars to help make this journey easier for her I would be really touched.
About Amy:
Amy is a kind and generous soul who puts others at ease with her sparkling smile and sweet personality. She is the type of person who speaks up on behalf of those with no voice. I’m so proud of her courage and tenacity and how she has handled the ongoing challenges with grace and strength.
Amy is currently working as a full-time graphic designer for a company she’s been with for 3 years. Luckily she is able to work remotely from her home in Philly.
Amy’s Story:
Amy first developed symptoms in 2017. This rare, painful disease is called Tenosynovial Giant Cell Tumor, (formerly known as PVNS), an aggressive, non-malignant tumor on her left hip.
Unfortunately, Amy had to push through 4 years and many doctor visits before her pain was taken seriously. She was finally officially diagnosed in 2021.
She had arthroscopic surgery last September and we had hoped that would have taken care of it but it has now returned and grown worse to the point that she is in constant pain and confined to crutches or wheelchair. Amy has been referred to the Penn Medicine Cancer Center by the orthopedic surgeon who performed her first surgery because it was beyond his scope. Amy is now scheduled for open surgery in October.
The rate of recurrence for the disease is high, even higher for people who have already had a post-surgical recurrence. It's likely that she will be dealing with this for the rest of her life, but we are hoping the surgery will give her at least a few pain-free years.
Amy is talented at her job and quite organized with her finances, I’m constantly amazed by how well she has been able to do under the circumstances.
Others have said:
“Amy’s kindness and personality touches everyone she meets. She lights up a room, especially when she's laughing. She will sit with you through your pain and offer space and support. I'd be lost without her as a friend.”
“Being awesome and kind and sweet and always ready and willing to support her friends. Also her laugh instantly lights up the room and makes you want to laugh with her.”
Thanks for listening to her story. ♥️
