complete a house for mel

my name is Kay Ruggi, i am asking for help to complete a house for my daughter melanie.

Mel is 40 this year, she is intellectually disabled, has an epileptic syndrome, very little speech and is no longer ambulant.

Mel was quite active until the end of 2019 when status elepticus put her into intensive care on life support for 2 and a half weeks, then medical ward for 1 and a half weeks.

Her condition after this ordeal changed.

She was no longer ambulant, she needed help in all areas of her life (more than before).

Feeding, toileting, showering, dressing, transfers, keeping cool and warm.

basically, all her daily needs require assistance

we have been renting for the last 26 years in beechworth and up until mels illness this suited us perfectly.......because of changes in her physical health we can no longer function easily or cater for mels needs properly.

We need space to manoeuvre a wheelchair and patient transfer inside, hard flat surface floor coverings, a disabled bathroom for ease of showering and toileting,ease of access.

Our life, both Mel's and mine has become extremely difficult and wearing on both of us.

Mels dad offered, upon seeing and understanding the difficulties associated with caring for Mel ,to build a house for us mid 2020.

This has been happening, however due to covid and high demand in the building industry leading to price rises he has basically ran out of finance.

At this stage we have just finished platering. We still need to paint, install cabinetry, floor coverings, electricals, disabled bathroom and ramps..........

so, here i am asking for help to help us complete this home for Melanie, me and my carers

I am 70 this year and as we all know, the line becomes shorter at this age...

completing this build will allow me to set up supports around Melanie so that when i am no longer here, she will already be familiar and comfortable in her space and that her transition without me will be as soft and smooth as possible.
