Covid Relief Fund for The Reyes Family
Hello! My name is Maricruz and I am the second oldest daughter in the Reyes family. I am writing this along with my older sister, Jasmine, in order to ask for your help to financially support our Covid stricken family. Together we make up a family of 6: Our mother Maria, our father-Carlos, and their children: Jasmine, myself, Emma, and Sergio.
Starting on July 4th, our youngest brother Sergio had a terrible cough and body aches. His fever skyrocketed and he was sent to emergency, where he tested positive for Covid-Delta. That led to our other family members (mother, father and sister) catching the Delta strain. After a day of treatment, my brother was released from Children’s hospital.
They tried to isolate themselves and recover at home, but their symptoms were overwhelming. My mother, always being the caretaker, supported her husband and children at home as best she could, but ended up driving everyone to emergency.
Once they reached emergency, they were admitted into ICU. Our mother was diagnosed with Covid delta and pneumonia. Our father was diagnosed with Covid sepsis. They each had low oxygen intake, fluid in lungs, high fevers, and low blood pressure, fatigue, etc. Unfortunately our father had to be intubated after the sepsis affected his mental faculties. That required sedation and paralytics. My mom, who was stable for about a week, took a turn for the worst and is in the same condition as our father. She is unresponsive, intubated and sedated. Their survival rate is really low.
My brother was the first one to get better and released first to go home. He was home alone for a week while Emma, Maria, and Carlos continued aggressive treatment in ICU. Emma was released a few days after and has been home with our brother since July 23rd. Emma is 19 and our brother is 14, and they have been isolated and taking care of each other.
My older sister, Jasmine, and I do not have the capacity to care for our younger siblings on our own. Emma is in college (virtual) and my brother was just accepted into a private high school in Berkeley.
We are asking for donations to help us support medical arrangements that need to be made for our parents, as well as for our younger siblings. I will transition into their main guardian and will do my best to make my parents proud.
The money would be distributed among medical needs, rent (my younger siblings aren’t financially independent), house utility bills, groceries, education, and therapy resources.
We are a strong and tight knit family that has always helped raise each other and encourage each other. Thank you for your time and support.
Best,
The Reyes Family
