Memorial for Deborah Eastwood

Hello everyone, My name is Breanna and I am Deborah’s youngest daughter. My mom passed away on May 26th at Alamance Regional. It was very unexpected. She went into the hospital in the beginning of May because she was throwing up blood, they did a small surgery and we believed that the problem was fixed. I woke up to the news on May 23 that she was in the hospital for the same issue and had to have surgery again and had a 20% chance to making it. She made it out of the surgery however she ended up getting pneumonia on top of all of the other health issues she had, cirrhosis of the liver, congestive heart failure, diabetes, etc. She was put in ICU and on a ventilator. The doctors at ARMC had planned on trying to lower the ventilation settings to allow her to start breathing more independently on Friday the 24th. Saturday morning around 8 am after I got off of working all night at my 3rd shift job I received a phone call from my Aunt Laurie and a care specialist at ARMC. It was obvious that plans needed to be arranged and I needed to travel from Illinois to North Carolina. My boyfriend and I arrived in North Carolina late Saturday night. When I arrived at the hospital Sunday morning I was informed that the blood pressure medication they had my mom on had reached it’s maximum dosage so they had started her on another medication that was almost already at it’s max dosage, and her blood pressure was dangerously low. They had her sedated and had to go further and paralyze her because the blood pressure medication was making the vessels in her heart squeeze super tight which was causing her heart rate to sky rocket making her very high risk for a heart attack, this also caused her to breathe over time going against the ventilator, so they had to give her medication to paralyze her. My sister and I decided that it was best to let her be at peace, so at 11:46 am on Sunday May 26th 2024 my mom took her last breath. The family was under the impression that she had a life insurance policy, however due to unfortunate circumstances this was inaccurate and the family has been unable to access any money. Not only did my boyfriend and I have to come up with the emergency funds to get to North Carolina but we also had to pull together to make the payment for my mom’s cremation. Thanks to my boyfriend’s grandfather and a few generous donations we were able to come up with the $1000+ to have my mom cremated. I am holding this fundraiser to help pay for a memorial service for her. I will have to take time off of work and have the finances to come back to North Carolina for this memorial service for my mom so being able to financially give her the memorial she deserves is something that I am struggling with. I’m asking for help, even if it’s just a few dollars so I can give my momma the memorial service she deserves. I would love to have the memorial service near the end of June however if we are unable to raise the funds, it will be in July/August.
